FINDING WRESTLING
Valerie Wyndham - known to TNA fans as SoCal Val - got her start in professional wrestling after being picked from a crowd at a wrestling event. Val first task was managing in Golden State Championship Wrestling where she debuted in 2002. She first managed Pinoy Boy, a fan favourite who she quickly turned on after joining his enemy Scott Lost. Val continued to tour Southern California getting herself involved with as many promotions as she possibly could. The SoCal Val character came into effect as she moved to Florida. The idea behind the persona was that she was a wealthy, grouchy, callous heel. Whilst in Florida SoCal Val continued to appear in numerous independent promotions, but also got herself a short deal with WWE as a model for both their website and ShopZone magazine releases. She also appeared on SmackDown! in a segment with Luther Reigns.
JOINING TNA
SoCal Val found more permanent work with TNA acting as a ring girl, spokes model, merchandise model and interviewer. Like Christy Hemme, Val was a host for the TNA Global iMPACT! broadcast. In spite of being a permanent fixture of the Thursday night promotion, Val continues to appear in other independent promotions such as Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. In 2005 SoCal Val joined RingDivas - a women’s wrestling company - where she wrestled Traci Brooks. Her appearances in RingDivas are regular, and her opponents ever changing. Mid-2006 Val was offered a spread in Playboy. The TNA Knockout spoke about it on MySpace citing; "It's a very serious thing to consider and the jury is still out on how I am going to handle this one. I've spoken to the people in my life whose opinions I value most, and each has been very supportive. For that I am grateful....but this is one I'm going to have to decide all on my own." She eventually declined the offer.
One month after the offer SoCal Val signed a contract with TNA. She was wrote out of WEW at the Twisted Steel and Sex Appeal pay-per-view. The red-head stands ringside, getting the fans worked up before tapings. She has had encounters with huge athletes such as Kurt Angle - who threatened to break her ankle - and Abyss - who delivered a Black Hole Slam to her.
