A NITRO GIRL

Sharmell entry into professional wrestling didn’t come until 1998. Before wrestling Sharmell spent time in modelling fields, earning herself the title of Miss Black America ‘91, then later joining several hip hop and R&B artists on tour as a professional dancer. The ability to dance was her key to the world of wrestling as she was signed by WCW to become a Nitro Girl.

The Nitro Girls were a dance troupe that entertained the fans during commercials, eventually they made their way onto television filling in as the announcers plugged pay-per-view events and merchandise. The Nitro Girls eventually became more involved in storylines, and so Sharmell ditched the dance name of Storm, instead becoming known as Paisley - manager of The Artist. It was during this time that Sharmell began wrestling, picking up her very first win in her debut match over Tammy Lynn Sytch (Sunny).

With The Artist and WCW parting ways Sharmell was left redundant. That was until she joined Kwee Wee and began tagging up with fellow Nitro Dancer Tygress. The two ladies regularly attacked Misfits in Action valet Major Gunns. Alongside a budding professional wrestling career Sharmell, along with four other Nitro ladies, created the music group Diversity 5. When Sharmell signed with WWE in 2000 she left the group and was consequently replaced.

A SHORT-STOP IN WWE

Sharmell reported to developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling with the intentions of becoming a full-time wrestler. She first began as a manager to the Suicide Blondes - for the sake of the stable Sharmell donned a blonde wig and was known as Sister Sharmell. Whilst in OVW Sharmell spent time working with such performers as Molly Holly and Nidia. In conjunction with her OVW training, Sharmell joined the SmackDown! show acting as an interviewer. Sharmell’s road to become a full-time wrestler though ended in 2002 as she suffered a torn ACL. WWE later released Sharmell from both OVW and SmackDown!

RETURNING FOR HER LOVE

Three years later Sharmell re-joined the WWE as the manager to her husband Booker T. Sharmell joined the SmackDown! brand and immediately engaged in a feud with Kurt Angle. The feud was based around Angle sexually harassing Sharmell, much to the dismay of Booker T. In one match Kurt Angle pinned Sharmell in a two-on-one handicap match (with Booker T in his wife’s corner). Following the feud Sharmell aided Booker T to United States Championship success after screwing Chris Benoit.

Sharmell didn’t stop there. She made her Wrestlemania debut teaming with her husband to take on the Boogeyman. The loss hurt Booker T who begun getting mocked by the fans. Sharmell intervened and helped her husband capture the King of the Ring. Consequently the duo dubbed themselves King and Queen. Whilst on SmackDown! they recruited Sir Finlay and Sir William Regal to assemble ‘The King’s Court’. In 2007 though the King and Queen were drafted to RAW.

Their time on RAW was short-lived. Firstly Sharmell stood in her husbands corner as he feuded with Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, and then supported Booker T in his battle against a returning Triple H at Summerslam 2007. On October 16 WWE.com announced the termination of Booker T and Sharmell’s contracts, effective as of October 27 2007.

PART OF A NEW WAVE

During 2006/07 Sharmell and Booker T opened their own wrestling academy known as PWA. After their release the two focused on PWA, and continue to do so, in spite of their arrival in TNA. At the Genesis event Sharmell and Booker T joined forces with Sting as they battled Nash and Kurt Angle. During the match Sharmell engaged in a cat fight with Karen Angle - wife of Kurt - and since then heat has begun to rise between the wives.
