ONE GOAL, WRESTLING
Elizabeth Kocanski, known to most as Beth Phoenix, started her wrestling career back in her New York High School where she was the very first female varsity wrestler in the school’s history. Her tenure on the time resulted in her racking up an array of impressive achievements seeing her become the North-East freestyle women’s champion (72kg weight class), and later she was crowned the women’s champion in the same weight class at the New York State Fair. According to Beth her life-long ambition was to become a professional wrestler, and in her mind having amateur experience was a necessity. Beth Phoenix was trained by the All Knights; Joey Knight (her current boyfriend) and Robin Knightwing. Three years after making her professional debut Beth was picked up by the WWE where she reported to the developmental training grounds of Ohio Valley Wrestling.REPORTING TO LOUISVILLE
She debuted as the on-screen girlfriend of former SmackDown! Superstar Chris Masters but the angle was quickly scrapped. Beth Phoenix slipped immediately into the role of managing Aaron ‘The Idol’ Stevens where she was joined by Shelley Martinez. The two ladies acted as the love interest of the egotistical wrestler - two years later though the two would feud as Shelley Martinez became infatuated with Pirate Paul Burchill.Whilst part of Ohio Valley Wrestling, Beth Phoenix was reached out to by other independent promotions. Beth Phoenix joined the SHIMMER Promotion for its first two volumes. Her opponents were Allison Danger (on Volume 1) and MsChif (on Volume 2).
Soon after Beth Phoenix received her big call to Monday Night RAW! Beth Phoenix debuted as an ally of Trish Stratus, and a long time enemy of then Women’s Champion Mickie James. Beth Phoenix made her in-ring debut three weeks later teaming with Torrie Wilson defeating the duo of Candice Michelle and Victoria. On June 5 Beth Phoenix faced quite the set-back when she suffered a fractured mandible courtesy of Victoria. The injury consequently sidelined Beth Phoenix for just under a year as she had a titanium plate inserted into her jaw.
After recovering from the injury Beth Phoenix spent time back in Ohio Valley Wrestling feuding mostly with Katie Lea (also known as Nikita). The two ladies fought over the first ever OVW Women’s Championship in the first ever ladies-Ladder match. Unfortunately for Phoenix it was Katie Lea who grabbed the title and went down as the first ever Champion but that didn’t stop Beth Phoenix from taking the belt from Katie further down the road.
THE ULTIMATE DIVA - THE GLAMAZON
On July 9, 2007 Beth Phoenix returned once again to Monday Night RAW in alignment with then Women’s Champion Melina and her partner Jillian Hall. Beth Phoenix slowly removed herself from the duo and at Summerslam 2007 won a #1 Contender’s tri-branded battle royal to get the chance to face Candice Michelle at Unforgiven for the belt. It wasn’t until No Mercy in September when Beth Phoenix pinned Candice Michelle to capture her first ever Women’s Championship. Beth Phoenix also made history by competing in the first ever two out of three falls ladies match which she won to retain her Championship.
Beth Phoenix continued to destroy the women's division in the WWE by picking up victories over the likes of Kelly and Maria.
The Glamazon ended up clashing with Mickie James at the 2007 Armageddon event, and despite the fans lack of support she beat
the challenger to continue her legacy. It would take a further four months for The Glamazon to come up short. In London,
England Phoenix put her belt on the line against Mickie James. To the surprise of many, Mickie James toppled Beth. The loss
angered Beth Phoenix whom looks to taking back her gold claiming that Mickie's win was a "fluke".
Her focus had to be altered quickly though when things erupted between her and Melina. The two ended up brawling on an episode of RAW which then led to the first ever I Quit Match between two females in WWE. Beth Phoenix forced the Paparazzi Queen to submit. But that did not mean their battle was over.
