THIS IS KONG

Kia Stevens - the real name of the monstrous Amazing Kong - made her professional wrestling debut in October 2002 after having trained with the highly regarded All Japan Women’s Pro-Wrestling promotion. Amazing Kong though quickly found work with several all-women’s promotions in Japan and consequently began gaining several championships. Two years after making her debut in AJW she won the WWWA World Heavyweight Championship and then went on to create the memorable tag team of Double Kong - Amazing Kong and legendary Aja Kong - where they feuded with Crush 2000, and earned themselves numerous tag title reigns in a number of promotions.

With the closure of most women’s promotions in Japan Amazing Kong sought work elsewhere. In January 2007 she beat Nanae Takahashi for the AWA World Championship and then on May 5 2007 defeated MsChif for the NWA World Women’s Championship. To date Amazing Kong is the only woman, along with Sherri Martel, to hold both titles simultaneously.

By this time Kong was making a name for herself in America as a brutal and monstrous force. In June 2007, Amazing Kong made her first appearances in the UK where she wrestled for three different promotions in successive days. On Friday June 15 she competed in Wales for Celtic Wrestling, beating compatriot Cheerleader Melissa. The next day she competed for Real Quality Wrestling in Colchester, Essex in a four way match for the RQW Women’s Championship against Wesna, Jezebel and Jetta. Despite dominating early on Kong was eventually disqualified for choking Wesna outside of the ring. The final of the UK dates had Kong competing at IPW:UK produced ChickFight 9 at Orpington Halls, Kent in a 8 women tournament. After receiving a bye in the first round due to an injury to Sweet Saraya the night before, Kong defeated Blue Nikita in the semi finals and the defeated Jezebel to win the tournament on the night.

Amazing Kong also joined the cult-promotion SHIMMER Women’s Athletes in time for their volume 5 recording. Her debut came when she defeated Nikki Roxx and then by the sixth volume she took part in a six-person tag match where she and The Experience (Lexie Fyfe and Malia Hosaka) defeated Ariel, Cindy Rogers and Josie. Kong disappeared for three volumes returning to pin MsChif on Volume 9 and then at Volume 10 defeated the major under-dog in Daizee Haze. With no losses under her belt in SHIMMER the colossal Kong got her first title shot against Sara Del Rey at the Volume 15 recording but lost the match after a countout. At Volume 16 and angered Kong got things back on track as she defeated Cheerleader Melissa.

FROM AMAZING TO AWESOME

September of 2007 saw Amazing Kong arrive in TNA which had recently earned a primetime slot on SpikeTV. TNA’s Mobile Alert Service announced that Kong had been signed under the alias of ‘Amazon Kong’. However when she debuted on October 11 2007 she was referred to as Awesome Kong - a debut which saw her defeat the first ever Knockouts Champion, Gail Kim. Awesome Kong went on to Bound for Glory where she was eliminated in ten-women’s gauntlet by Angel Williams, Gail Kim and O.D.B. An angered Kong began destroying Knockouts on following broadcasts of iMPACT! thus far beating Talia Madison and Angel Williams.

Awesome Kong went on to participate in the first ever TNA No DQ ladies match where she came up short in a match against then Champion Gail Kim. Kong was granted one final chance to capture the belt after Gail Kim accepted the challenge. The second TNA broadcast of 2008 witnessed Awesome Kong deliver three Awesome Bombs to Gail Kim, then pinning her to become the second TNA Knockouts Champion.

Her title reign kicked off immediately with a feud of ODB who hoped to become the next Knockout to topple Awesome Kong. Unfortunately for the fan favourite, Awesome Kong laid out ODB, and soon Gail Kim as the three met in triple threat action at Destination X. Raisha Saeed - a mysterious valet for Kong - made her debut and soon enough Awesome Kong had a voice.

Finding little competition on the Knockouts Roster, Awesome Kong set her sights on the TNA Audience. Each week Kong invited members of the crowd to challenge her for a prize fund of $10,000. Kong has reached almost double figures in her challenge and still holds on to the prize money.

She’s two, maybe even three times the size of your average Knockout. She speaks only in the ring, and when she does, it sure looks like it hurts.
